As part of a new direction for my weaving I decided to learn some traditional upholstery techniques so that I can apply my work to furniture. I spent a week with Richard and Sonja Hooper who run Tresithick Upholstery Training at Granpound near Truro. I had such a brilliant week where I learnt how to strip down the old fabric and stuffing from a chair so that I could start from the bare frame to rebuild and upholster the chair using traditional methods. I really suprised me how many layers are used and how time consuming it is to build up a firm and even seat. Here are some of the pictures of me at work:
